sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mikhailnov/pulseeffects -y Then Eureka! Finally, I discovered there's a repository and the more conventional Debian method of installing packages and which nearly always works out of the box, so here are the commands for PE. The trouble with Flatpak is that it's slow to start from a fresh boot There's also Flatpak, which is an alternative to Snap if no package is found in there nor the repositories. So unless you have a degree in Computer Science, good luck with that. There is Github, but as so often is the case with them, no instructions on how to install that I've come across. I see you can even import them from a file of presets which I saved from PAE, but haven't tried this out yet.Īs for downloading and installing PE, until recently this was a real PITA. And that one works in a very similar way to PAE, where you can set your own frequencies or presets and name-save them. Except we do have an equalizer, the main reason why I installed PE. I have no instructions or manual that guide me or explain what the various applications within mean. PE has a lot more bells and whistles than PAE although I have little idea what most of them do. However thanks to the info from user Logix we now have PE, so the loss of PAE doesn't seem that important any longer. But so far nobody seems to have come up with a workable means of installing PAE with 18.04. For audio fans like myself, this was a very annoying setback as I found the use of PAE noticeably enhanced the sound in Ubuntu giving a really pleasant listening experience. As most users have found out by now with Ubuntu 18.04, PAE is no longer supported, having been available for years. I will try flatseal. This is a follow-up (and maybe a bit of a rant) for fans of PulseAudio-Equalizer (PAE) and PulseEffects (PE). While I no longer get the error message to enable that option, that option does not seem to actually work. EasyEffects had an update which now allows for auto-start at login. Went to settings > OS Upgrade and Refresh > Refresh OS. So, I believe this is a War Thunder issue.Įdit 2: I did a Pop OS refresh and that seems to have fixed my audio issues. So I'm guessing it's some kind of steam issue.Įdit: I installed Rocket League, another Linux compatible steam game, audio works fine with other applications. EasyEffects also works with the other applications if I don't start steam/WT. the video won't even load - I just get stuck with a loading circle. For example, if I go to youtube, netflix, etc. However, if I start WT first, with or without EasyEffects, then try to start audio in another application, it causes audio in other applications like Firefox or Spotify to not work. If I start EasyEffects without starting anything else, it also works in WT. The output device is the generic card option listed above and I get audio. When it does work, the output device in War Thunder is Default:Card=Generic.Īlso, whenever I start War Thunder via steam before anything else, I have no audio issues. The output of the command you suggested is:įurthermore, in War Thunder, I can sometimes select pipewire or pulse - but neither ofthose options actually give me sound output. Hello, thank you for your reply, and apologies for my late response - I was out of town and unable to access my linux desktop. Should I stick with a software EQ for Pop OS or try to go to a hardware based EQ? I don't know, I'm very new to this and a little overwhelmed. I haven't really done anything in the terminal so maybe there's some library or other stuff I need to install to get EasyEffects to work better. to let EasyEffects ask again, run." Additionally, I would prefer to have an EQ that can auto start in the background or minimized - like Equalizer APO/PEACE can. Using tweaks is fine but the auto start up option in EasyEffects gives me an error message stating something along the lines of "unable to get background access. Second, I cannot get EasyEffects to start up automatically without GNOME Tweaks. I'm unsure if this applies to all Steam games. First, I do not get audio when I try to play War Thunder through Steam. I have tried EasyEffects as an EQ, which works fine for the firefox browser but I have a couple issues otherwise. Basically, I am having some audio EQ issues. I'm coming from Windows 10 where I was running Equalizer APO and PEACE without issue. As the title says, I'm new to Linux and Pop OS in general.
